¹⁰ When the governor^(A) motioned for him to speak, Paul replied: “I know that for a number of years you have been a judge over this nation; so I gladly make my defense.

⁸ Then Paul made his defense: “I have done nothing wrong against the Jewish law or against the temple^(A) or against Caesar.”

¹⁶ “I told them that it is not the Roman custom to hand over anyone before they have faced their accusers and have had an opportunity to defend themselves against the charges.^(A)

26 Then Agrippa said to Paul, “You have permission to speak for yourself.”^(A)

So Paul motioned with his hand^(B) and began his defense:

¹⁶ At my first defense, no one came to my support, but everyone deserted me. May it not be held against them.^(A)
